In the shadow of Voidokilia, Messinia’s best-known beach, lies a much smaller and quieter beach that remains relatively unknown. Glossa is a small, sheltered cove almost completely enclosed by rocks, with a narrow opening between them allowing seawater to enter.

Despite being right next to one of the area’s most famous spots, it has a completely different character. It is small, secluded and has no real facilities, making it more suitable for those looking for a short stop away from the crowds.
How to get to Glossa
Access is on foot from Voidokilia and is very easy. The walk takes around 10 minutes along a clear, easy path.
From Voidokilia, follow the path uphill toward the rise where the Tomb of Thrasymedes is located. Leave the tomb on your left and continue along the path as it descends toward Glossa.

The Tomb of Thrasymedes
Just before reaching Glossa, you pass the Mycenaean Tomb of Thrasymedes, one of the notable archaeological sites in the area around Voidokilia. Its position on the hill makes it a natural landmark along the route to Glossa. Even if your main destination is the beach, it is worth a short stop before continuing down to the cove.

A very small beach

Glossa really is a tiny beach. Space is limited, and it would be difficult for more than 20–30 people to fit there comfortably without changing its quiet character.
The surrounding rocks provide a good degree of shelter and give the cove a secluded feel. The opening to the sea is narrow, with the water entering through the gap between the rocks.
Naturism
During the summer months, Glossa is frequented by naturists. It is not an organised or officially designated naturist beach, but its secluded setting has made naturism fairly common here.
Visitors should simply be aware that this is something they are likely to encounter.
Natural clay
Natural clay can also be found in the area. Some visitors apply it to their skin and attribute various beneficial properties to it.

What to combine with a visit to Glossa

A visit to Glossa can easily be combined with Voidokilia, as the two beaches are very close to each other. If you have more time, you can also visit Palaiokastro, Nestor’s Cave and the Gialova Lagoon in the same area.
Glossa therefore works well as a short stop within a longer day exploring the Pylos and Gialova area.
